Presumptive Disability

In the context of Disability Insurance, Presumptive Disability refers to a condition where the insured is automatically considered totally disabled, regardless of their ability to work, if they experience certain severe impairments. These typically include the irreversible loss of:

  • Sight in both eyes,
  • Speech,
  • Hearing in both ears, or
  • Use of two or more limbs.

Under presumptive disability, the insured qualifies for full disability benefits without needing to meet the standard definition of total disability. Benefits are often payable for the policy's maximum benefit period.
